KUCHING, Nov 11: The Sarawak government has earmarked a significant budget of RM1.42 billion to implement the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project next year.
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said with the allocation, the KUTS project will focus on four major components, namely the construction of three Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) Lines, Rembus Depot main building, feeder bus depot, and mass production of ART vehicles and feeder buses.
“These initiatives not only promote economic growth but also contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions.
“This aligns with our pledge to drive green mobility and support the global endeavour to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2050, promoting a cleaner environment and inclusive growth for all,” he said when tabling the Sarawak Budget 2025 in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.
Abang Johari who is Minister of Finance and New Economy, further said in effort to improve and upgrade the public transport system, RM8 million will be provided in 2025 for the implementation of smart buses in Miri City and RM1 million for the construction of a bus terminal in Kapit.
Meanwhile, on the proposed development of a new international airport in Kuching, he said a detailed feasibility study will soon be carried out. — DayakDaily
