Sarawak BN GE14 candidates: Abang Jo keeps cards close to chest

Abang Johari leaves BCCK after officiating at the Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Graduation Ceremony.

KUCHING, April 23: State Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates for the coming general election (GE14) will only be known tomorrow when Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg makes the announcement.

Responding to reporters’ queries for his comments on BN component party Parti Rakyat Sarawak’s (PRS) move to expel two of its Members of Parliament — Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun (Selangau) and Datuk William Nyalau Badak (Lubok Antu) — Abang Johari said to wait for the announcement tomorrow at the state BN headquarters.

“We have to respect their (PRS) decision. Tell you what, tomorrow we will announce the candidates,” said Abang Johari after officiating at the Swinburne University of Technology Graduation Sarawak Ceremony at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here this morning.

Asked if there was such a thing as an intervention by a ‘big brother’ on PRS’ candidacy issue, he said it was merely speculation.

“Because this will be a Parliamentary election, the decision is by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak),” he added.

Last night, PRS held an emergency meeting and a press conference announcing the expulsion of Entulu and Nyalau together with three other party members including a supreme council member.

Entulu and Nyalau were sacked because they were found to have rebelled against the decision of the party’s candidate selection committee to replace them, by claiming they were the BN candidates for their respective seats. — DayakDaily
