KUCHING, Nov 16: Sarawak is at the forefront of benefiting from the global transition to hydrogen as a key fuel, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to a news report from Bernama, Abang Johari said the State’s legal framework, which includes environmental management, will optimise the usage of natural resources to boost the economy.

He said the world transition has been substantive following efforts to reduce carbon emissions and address climate change, and progressing research and technological advancement also contributes to the importance of hydrogen as a key energy source for the next decade.

“Research has been taken to reduce the cost of producing hydrogen and I think within five to ten years, hydrogen will be the key fuel. This is why we have to position ourselves early,” he was quoted by Bernama as saying.

He said this at the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) Excellent Service Award presentation dinner last night (Nov 15).

He added that the Natural Resources and Environment Bill 2024, which was passed in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting recently, would also help expand Sarawak’s authority to sustainably manage its environmental and natural resources. — DayakDaily
