KUCHING, Jan 15: Making Sarawak as the new energy development centre, particularly for hydrogen, could have comprehensive impact for the whole of Malaysia, Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof says.
He refers to a recent a meeting between Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba whereby both leaders committed to making Sarawak a centre for new energy development, especially hydrogen, with the aim of exporting the energy.
In a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Fadillah said it would not only boost Sarawak’s economy but also Malaysia’s, as the development centre would be used to export hydrogen to Japan and other countries.
He added that the selection of Sarawak would enable the state to become the main hub for the hydrogen economy in the Asian region
“Not only to the Sarawak economy but Malaysia in particular because hydrogen is a form of clean energy.
“It may also be a new energy that can replace nuclear energy,” he said when met by the media after the Gemilang Dinner of the Inns of Court Malaysia (ICM) Eastern Region here on Saturday.
He also pointed out that Sarawak is quite advanced in the hydrogen field, allowing them to be chosen as the centre for this development, with Japan and South Korea having invested in Sarawak.
Fadillah, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said that Malaysia’s partnership with Japan and South Korea would also see new technology being brought to Sarawak. – DayakDaily
