KUCHING, Feb 27: Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian anticipates the establishment of more Sarawak Trade and Tourism Offices (Statos) overseas to market Sarawak and its products to the rest of the world.
Statos, which began operations in 2019, is one of the efforts of the ‘Sarawak First’ policy, according to Dr Sim in a recorded video shared on social media today.
“Since the 2018 transformation of the political landscape, our Premier (Datuk Patinggi) Abang Jo (Johari Openg) has spoken of ‘Sarawak First’.
“And one of the products of the ‘Sarawak First’ policy is Statos, which began operations in 2019.
“Statos has since assisted numerous Sarawakians in not only marketing our tourism, agriculture, and investment products to Singapore and beyond, but also attracting Singaporeans to Sarawak,” he said.
Dr Sim who is also Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister went on to say that during the recent trip of Abang Johari and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Brunei, the Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah had approved the establishment of Statos in Brunei.
“Statos’s next location will be in Kalimantan, and hopefully in China in the near future,” he added.
Dr Sim said Statos provides opportunities not only for importers and tourist officers, but also for Sarawak products to be exported and for investors to invest in both Sarawak’s blue carbon and green carbon as well as renewable energy, in addition to traditional sectors such as agriculture and fuel energy. — DayakDaily
