KUCHING, Oct 27: Sarawak is determined to be at the forefront of the world in the production and utilization of hydrogen, according to Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

Dr Hazland believes this aspiration is achievable now that Sarawak has developed expertise in renewable energy sectors, including hydrogen, and harnessed the region’s abundant natural resources.

“Sarawak is endowed with numerous rivers and abundant rainfall, making it well-suited for venturing into the hydrogen industry,” he explained during the TVS Dialog and Talk programme.

Dr Hazland, who also serves as Demak Laut assemblyman, highlighted that China is the world’s largest hydrogen producer and consumer, followed by Japan, South Korea, Europe, and possibly Sarawak in fifth place.

He further stated that Sarawak’s geographical location is ideal for carbon storage, as it is situated in a stable area with waters beyond the range of volcanoes and earthquakes.

“In the world, there are only three regions suitable for carbon storage: Norway, the United States (Houston), and Sarawak,” Dr Hazland explained. — DayakDaily
