BINTULU, Sept 1: Sarawak Agrofest 2025 concluded in spectacular fashion at Lasar Kenyalang, achieving sales of RM6.35 million during its eight-day showcase and drawing a record-breaking crowd of more than 1.12 million visitors on its final day.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom revealed his intention to make Bintulu the permanent host of Sarawak Agrofest, while also expanding the Mini Agrofest to other divisions across the State.

He emphasised agriculture’s pivotal role in driving Sarawak’s socio-economic transformation as the State advances towards its goal of becoming a net food exporter by 2030.

“Agrofest serves as a crucial platform linking government policy with the farming community, while showcasing modern innovations such as drones, smart farming, and a profit-driven supply chain.

“Agriculture should no longer be seen as a 3D job – dirty, dangerous, and difficult. With technology, new mindsets, and innovative approaches, it can evolve into a prestigious and rewarding career that secures our future,” he said when officiating the closing ceremony today.

He further noted Malaysia’s food trade deficit, which stood at RM7.6 billion in 2024, stressing the urgency of boosting paddy production, strengthening downstream industries, and developing the local animal feed sector.

Bintulu Division Resident Datu Nyurak Keti highlighted that Agrofest further cements Bintulu’s reputation as a premier destination for large-scale events, citing its recent successful hosting of Pesta Sebauh, the Tun Taib Bridge launch, and the Bintulu Marathon.

“Thank you to the people of Bintulu for their strong cooperation in making the festival a success,” he said.

Nyurak also invited the public to upcoming highlights, including the Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16, the internationally-participated Bintulu Car Festival, and the Tatau Festival next month.
