KUCHING, May 21: Sarawak continues to strengthen its position in Malaysia’s aerospace landscape, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between i-CATS University College and the National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia (NAICO Malaysia).
According to a press statement, the agreement, signed at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA ’25) yesterday, aims to strengthen the development of local talent and expand technical capabilities of the aerospace industry in Sarawak.
Currently, i-CATS is actively building capacity across several critical areas of aerospace development. These include system engineering, aircraft design, avionics, satellite technology, and aerospace systems integration.
The institution’s initiatives are aimed at producing Sarawakian engineers, technicians, and innovators equipped with the knowledge and hands-on expertise to contribute directly to the local and national aerospace supply chain.
With the backing of the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD), i-CATS is aligning its academic programmes and research efforts with the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030 (MAIB 2030).
“While still in the development phase, i-CATS’s aerospace programmes are designed to evolve in tandem with Sarawak’s aspirations: to create a vibrant aerospace ecosystem that attracts investment, generates high-income employment, and promotes innovation-driven growth.
“The university college is committed to becoming a central pillar in this ecosystem, serving as both a training ground and a think tank for Sarawak’s aerospace ambitions,” it said.
The collaboration also supports Sarawak’s broader mission to drive economic diversification through high-value industries, with aerospace identified as a key growth area under the state’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030. – DayakDaily
