KUCHING, Nov 6: Sarawak has successfully strengthened its financial position over the last four years due to its policies, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said this enabled the Sarawak government to implement development projects which they planned for Sarawak, and this must continue in order to create a stable and prosperous State.

Speaking at a press conference after launching the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) manifesto for the 15th General Election (GE15) tonight, Abang Johari warned Sarawakians to learn and reflect on what they had experienced when Pakatan Harapan (PH) took over as federal government.

Expressing his disappointment over PH’s manifesto promises in the 14th General Election, he said, “Sarawak had bad experience during the two years under PH government. They promised a lot but none was fulfilled. It was a waste of 22 months for nothing.

“Even the development projects which have been approved by the previous government before them were also withdrawn and this must be a lesson for Sarawakians.”

Now that Sarawak is under GPS and politically independent on its own, Abang Johari said, that is why the State needs a strong federal government to implement policies for the people.

He emphasised how important this is especially when an economic recession is expected in 2023 and 2024, and the global economy does not look promising.

“That is why we must have a very effective policy to improve our economy and at the same time make sure that the people have food on the table,” he added.

GPS’s GE15 manifesto focuses on five main pillars, namely stable and resilient politics, socio-economy and finances; infrastructure and facility development in urban and rural areas; economic transformation and diversified revenue generation to drive Sarawak’s development; training of human capital, upholding social justice as well as religious beliefs; and efficient government administration with high integrity. — DayakDaily
