Sarawak: 111 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths, Sibu contributes almost half of new cases

KUCHING, Feb 9: Sarawak rebounded back into triple-digit territory today, reporting 111 new Covid-19 cases, a marked increase from the 84 cases registered yesterday.

Sibu contributed 48.6 per cent of the total new cases reported.


At the same time, there were two new deaths reported.

According to a press statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, the cases were from Sibu (54), Miri (24), Bintulu (12), Dalat (7), Kanowit (6), Kapit (5), Beluru (2), Kuching (2), Lawas (1) and Betong (1).

Sibu district continued to top the number of new daily cases in Sarawak for the eighth consecutive day.

Out of the 54 cases reported in Sibu, 44 cases were identified via screenings at health facilities in Sibu.

Other cases in Sibu were identified through active contact tracing, or involved symptomatic individuals who went for screening at health facilities while one case which involved a healthcare worker in Sibu.

With the latest additions, the tally of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has jumped to 5,871.

There were also two deaths reported in Sibu. One involved a 66-year-old woman who had comorbidities of hypertension, diabetes and linked to the Pasai Cluster while the second death involved a 54-year-old man who had hypertension.

With this, the death toll due to Covid-19 in Sarawak has increased to 55.

Meanwhile, there were 121 patients who recovered and were allowed to be discharged from various health facilities in Sarawak.

There is a total of 1,816 patients who are receiving treated for coronavirus at health facilities across the state.

There were 137 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases reported while 24 PUI cases are awaiting laboratory test results. — DayakDaily
