KUCHING, Feb 24: A search and rescue (SAR) operation is currently underway after a vehicle was spotted sinking beneath the waters of the Sarawak River near the Satok suspension bridge this morning.

As of 12.40pm, divers have located the vehicle near the ramp and are now attempting to do a second dive.

Eyewitness Boniface Jongsin, 24, a river cleaner who happened to be on the other side of the river saw the incident which occurred at about 10.30am.

“I immediately took my boat to the location, in an attempt to rescue the victim. I saw one person in the car. The vehicle’s windows were closed and I kept knocking, telling the person to get put. However the victim waved their hand and refused to be rescued. Within a minute or two, the vehicle had sunk,” Boniface told DayakDaily.

He was unsure if the person in the vehicle was a male or female.
