SAR operation activated for fishing boat reported to have sunk in Miri

MIRI, Dec 13: A Search and Rescue (SAR) operation was activated by the Maritime Rescue and Search Centre (MRSC) Kuching at 8am today for a fishing boat that was reported to have sunk in Tanjung Payung in Miri.

MRSC Kuching, in a statement, said they received a call from Captain Nari Rasul of Seri Cempaka tanker ship at 4pm informing about a fishing boat that sank nearby Tanjung Payung, yesterday (Dec 12).

“However, MRSC Kuching have no information on the boat name, owner and its crew as no report was made by any party regarding the incident,” the statement added.

As of press time, Miri police headquarters and Miri Fisherman Association however informed that they have not received any report from anyone on the matter so far.

MRSC Kuching have directed KM Stapa boat from Marina Bay jetty to the reported location in search for any victims and clues regarding the fishing boat.— DayakDaily
