KUCHING, Sept 13: Santubong was the site of the second oldest Malay kingdom in the country after Kedah.
Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali noted that Sarawak has an amazing history with recent research proving that Santubong existed about 300 years before AD (300 BC), while Kedah was reported to have existed 500 years before AD (500 BC).
“To date, Santubong is the largest archaeological site in Southeast Asia so our history is abundant but we lack the information on our history.
“That is why Ikatan Graduan Melayu Sarawak (IGMS) felt that there is a need to organise this seminar to highlight Sarawak’s history,” she told a press conference after the opening ceremony of ‘Sarawak History International Conference 2023’ at Grand Margherita Hotel here today.
She also said that Sarawak was once the largest trade centre in the region.
