Samarahan, Kuching, and Bintulu see rise in Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, Feb 16: Samarahan, Kuching and Bintulu each reported a marked increase in Covid-19 cases today as compared to yesterday.

According to a press statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Samarahan registered 19 cases while Kuching and Bintulu reported 17 cases and 12 cases respectively.

In comparison, yesterday Samarahan reported 12 cases, Kuching registered eight cases and Bintulu saw six cases.

The committee revealed that Sarawak reported 193 new Covid-19 cases in total today.

The cases were from Sibu (105), Samarahan (19), Kuching (17), Kapit (17), Bintulu (12), Beluru (7), Julau (6), Song (3), Dalat (3), Miri (2) and Bau (2).

These new cases have pushed the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 7,025.

There was one Covid-19 fatality reported today involving an 83-year-old woman from Nanga Banjor, Song in Sibu.

The deceased is believed to be from the Pasai Cluster and had hypertension and diabetes.

This fatality brings the death toll due to the coronavirus in Sarawak to 62.

Meanwhile there were 139 Covid-19 patients who recovered and were allowed to be discharged from various hospitals.

A total of 1,842 patients are still being treated at various health facilities across Sarawak.
