KUCHING, Aug 18: The Salvation Army Kuching will hold a charity sale on Sept 1 at its Community Complex in Kota Samarahan to raise crucial funds in support of the underprivileged.
According to a press release, the event, known as the ‘Sale of Work’, will run from 7.30am to 12pm and feature about 70 stalls selling a variety of food and items, including homemade delights such as ayam pansoh, Sarawak laksa, nasi biryani, and Korean tteokbokki (rice cakes).
Several guests of honour are expected to attend, while members of the public are invited to support the cause by making purchases and learning more about the organisation’s services.

Apart from that, the event will feature special performances by residents of The Salvation Army Kuching Children’s Care Centre, along with free physiotherapy consultations and discounted therapy sessions priced between RM15 and RM30 to promote health awareness among the public.
The day’s event will also see the participation of several associations, churches, corporate partners, and individuals who have volunteered their time and resources to ensure its success. It promises to be a wholesome family affair where visitors can enjoy good food while supporting a meaningful and lasting cause.
“We hope that with the amount obtained from the charity sale, the work of The Salvation Army in Kuching can be further expanded, and more underprivileged people can be assisted,” said Lieutenant Kamaleswaran, the Corps Officer for The Salvation Army Kuching.
Since 1959, The Salvation Army Kuching has provided care and shelter for minors who were orphaned, disabled, or from high-risk families at its Kuching Children’s Home in Jalan Uplands and Kuching Boys Home in Jalan Ban Hock.
The first Sale of Work event was held in the 1960s at both homes, showcasing handcrafted woodwork and sewing by the youths to raise much-needed funds for underserved children and youth in Kuching.
Today, The Salvation Army Kuching’s services extend beyond childcare to include community care efforts such as family and financial counseling, food aid, emergency relief during crises like fires and floods, as well as a social enterprise thrift store that collects and sells preloved items including clothing, books, furniture, and children’s toys.
In September 2023, the Kuching Children’s Home and Kuching Boys Home relocated to a new site in Kota Samarahan.
In July 2025, The Salvation Army Kuching launched two new initiatives for the underprivileged.
The first is a series of workshops aimed at fostering healthier and stronger relationships between children and their parents from underserved communities.
The second is an after-school care programme for primary school children from Kampung Kudei, providing them with meals, homework guidance, character-building activities, as well as emotional and social support.
“With the rising cost of living, more people, particularly from marginalised communities, are seeking assistance.
“This makes fundraising crucial for The Salvation Army Kuching to continue providing care and respite where it is most needed, especially in areas around Kuching.
“All funds raised from this event will be channelled directly for the benefit of the local community,” the press release stated.
For those wishing to contribute, the purchase of coupons or the donation of items for the sale can be arranged through The Salvation Army Kuching Corps at 082-333 98 (Ms Sabrina) or The Salvation Army Children’s Care Centre at 082-502 215 (Mdm Liew/Ms Ann). — DayakDaily
