KUCHING, Aug 4: The Salvation Army Kuching will host a charity sale on Aug 31 from 8am to 12pm at the Association of Churches of Sarawak (ACS), Jalan Stampin here to raise funds for the underprivileged.

According to a press release, this is the first time the event has been held following a two-year absence caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Several guests of honour will also attend the charity sale, including the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

The public can learn more about the Salvation Army Kuching’s work and services and show their support by purchasing a variety of items from over 80 stalls that will be operating on the day.

Aside from that, there will be special performances by the homes’ residents.

The charity sale will also include several associations and corporate partners, as well as individuals who have volunteered to contribute their energy and resources to make the event a success.

The event will be a day of wholesome family fun for all to enjoy good food and make purchases for a good and lasting cause.

“We hope that with the amount obtained from the charity sale, the work of The Salvation Army in Kuching can be further expanded, and more underprivileged people can be assisted,” said The Salvation Army Kuching corps officer and team leader Captain Raymond Aloba.

The Salvation Army Kuching has been caring for and sheltering babies and children who have been orphaned or come from high-risk families since 1959.

Their services now include community care such as family counselling, financial counselling, food aid, emergency aid and relief in times of crisis such as fire and flood, and a social enterprise in the form of a thrift store (collecting and selling preloved items such as clothing, books, furniture, and children’s toys).

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been an increase of people in need of assistance, especially from the B40 communities.

This is where the fundraising is crucial, to enable The Salvation Army Kuching team to provide care and respite where it is most needed, especially in areas surrounding Kuching.
