SADA committed to increasing rice production in Batang Lupar

KUCHING: The Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA) is committed to increasing rice production from the Batang Lupar area.

According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), SADA through the Sri Aman Division Resident office has signed an agreement with the Sarawak Development Institute (SDI) to conduct study and mapping of the paddy production ecosystem in Batang Lupar.

The agreement was signed by Sri Aman acting resident Mahra Salleh and SDI chief executive officer Lelia Sim, and witnessed by SADA chairwoman Dato Sri Rohani Abdul Karim, at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here on Tuesday.

Among the main objectives of this study include collecting the socio-economic profile of farmers and landowners in the area involved, identifying problems or challenges in the rice production process in the Batang Lupar rice granary area, and finding more effective measures to increase the involvement of farmers in planting rice using modern methods and technology.

Rohani said the initiative of this study is to ensure that Sarawak’s dream of becoming a rice producing region in Malaysia and in the region comes true.
