KUCHING, June 3: Sarawak National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Samariang branch this morning brought Hari Raya Aidilfitri cheers to 50 less fortunate children by treating them to a festive shopping spree at Boulevard Shopping Mall here.

The children, aged between six and 15 years, were from poor families and some were orphans from Samariang state constituency. They were free to choose their new Hari Raya clothes, and their budget was about RM150 each.

Saberkas Samariang deputy chairman Sulhie Salleh, who led the charity event called ‘Program Cahaya Aidilfitri’, said this was the first time the branch organised such an initiative.

“We want to show our affection and give these less fortunate children an opportunity to shop for new Hari Raya clothes with their friends. We hope this would bring more cheers to their Hari Raya celebration,” he told reporters.

Thirty Saberkas Samariang branch members were also at the event.

“When we were as young as them, this sort of activity always brought joy to us. That is why we organised this activity so that they, too, can experience the joy that would have been hard to come by as they are from less fortunate households,” he said. — DayakDaily
