RWMF reveller fined RM2,000 for hurting police personnel with beer can

KUCHING, June 23: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a technician to a fine of RM2,000 for voluntarily causing hurt to a policeman who was on duty at the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF).

The 32-year-old accused pleaded guilty to the charged framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi convicted him as charged and sentenced him to a fine of RM2,000 or in default to one month’s imprisonment.

The accused was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to Corporal Rhodney Rodrigues Usop, at Santubong Police Station, at about 6pm on June 19, 2022

According to the brief facts of the case, Rhodney was on duty patrolling around the RMWF venue and had arrested the accused who was disturbing the peace at the site and brought the latter back to the police station for documentation.

When they had arrived at Santubong Police Station, the victim exited the police patrol car when suddenly the accused attacked the victim from the back by using a beer can and injured the victim’s left eye.

It was also found that at the time, the accused was under the influence of alcohol and had acted aggressively.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
