KUCHING, June 19: The Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2022 has achieved its target of 12,000 visitors, says Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He said 92 per cent of the visitors were locals and the remaining eight per cent were foreigners from a total of 41 countries at the festival, physically.

“On the first day, we had 2,000 visitors, the second day we had 7,000 and today we got another 3,000 visitors.

“I was not expecting this sort of reception after the reopening of our borders, but to my surprise many have come over to Sarawak to enjoy the show.

“Top five physical attendees are (from the countries of) Malaysia, Singapore, United Kingdom, Indonesia and Australia,” he said in a press conference held at RWMF site in Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) here earlier today.

Abdul Karim also revealed that there were 45 food and beverage (F&B) vendors and 46 crafts booths at this year’s RWMF.

In addition, he also reminded reporters that every RM10 collected from each RM25 virtual ticket for RWMF will be donated towards Sarawak Tourism Board’s (STB) ecoGreenPlanet tree-planting programme.

Under the programme, the tree-planting activities will take place at Matang Wildlife Centre in Kuching and Piasau Nature Reserve in Miri.
