KUCHING, Jan 8: It’s time for members of the public to dust off their running shoes and join local firefighters at the inaugural Kuching Firefighters Run 1.0.

Sporting the tagline of ‘Run for Good Health’, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Kuching Zone is organising the fun and easy run for all.

Comprising a 7km Competitive Run and 3km Fun Run, the event will take place on Sunday, March 15 this year at the Kuching South City Commission (MBKS) building here.

Flag-offs for the 7km and 3km runs are at 6.30am and 6.45am respectively, with two Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) fire trucks receiving participants at the finishing line with a ‘rain shower’.

There will also be a Fire and Safety Awareness Campaign, fire truck displays such as Fire Rescue Tender, Fire Water Tanker, RIM, EMRS and HAZMAT unit on the same day.

Participants are encouraged to sign up fast to secure their spots before registration closes on Sunday, Feb 16 or when registration reaches 2,000 participants.

Interested individuals may either register via JomRun (mobile app) or registration form which can be obtained from the Bomba Zone 1 office at Tabuan Jaya.

Prizes will be given to the top 10 male and female finishers in the 7km category. There is also a mystery gift for youngest participant in the 3km category, along with a host of lucky draws.

The design of the finisher’s medal is quintessentially Bomba’s orange operation uniform (celoreng) with the head of a cat (representing Kuching city) and two axes symbolising the firefighters’ role in rescue.

The run is also part of Bomba Kuching Zone’s initiative to encourage, enhance and improve the quality of life in the community.

Race packs will be available for collection on March 13 and 14, from 9am to 4.30pm at the Bomba multipurpose hall in Tabuan Jaya.

Participants need to present their JomRun e-ticket or payment slip for collection of race packs.

The run is supported by City Joggers Club, with WTK Group as the official sponsor and MBKS as the run venue host.
