MIRI, Dec 29: Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon today denied that the PH federal government was planning to introduce a new tax policy for clubs, associations or similar institutions.

The rumours which have been circulating via social media recently have created uneasiness amongst associations and other stakeholders.

The rumours allege the new tax policy will come into effect on January 1, 2020.

The Democratic Action Party (DAP) assemblyman made the denial when met today after presenting ‘back to school’ items to 68 students in Piasau Utara here.

The programme was hosted by Persatuan Prihatin Sibuti and Miri District (PPSMD).

Also present was the association’s secretary Zulhaidah Suboh.

“As far as I know, I have never heard of these rumours….these rumours should stop…,” Ting pointed out.

He added, that spreading such rumours is a deliberate attempt by some quarters to discredit the PH government.

He has also contacted the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) Miri branch chief regarding the matter.

“Miri IRBM head has replied to me that there is no such policy of taxes (as spread by the rumours)…” according to Ting.

He added, seminars or forums will be organised to enhance public knowledge on tax policies regarding taxability of a club, association or similar institution. — DayakDaily
