LANGKAWI, May 26: British car manufacturer Rolls-Royce is interested in working together with Sarawak in the development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Deputy Minister of Transport Malaysia, Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, said the desire was expressed during a meeting between both parties recently.

The company, he said, also intends to go to Sarawak to see for itself the production and use of SAF.

“Therefore, I will discuss this with our side in Sarawak, especially with Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg), about this good development.

“Many had expressed their interest when Sarawak produced this SAF, and it is a step forward for the future of the State,” he said when visiting Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2023) at Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) yesterday (May 25).

Hasbi said although the price of SAF is still high, it will decrease after its production is expanded later.

He said that involvement in the SAF industry shows that Sarawak is now at the forefront of sustainable green energy development and leading in efforts to reduce carbon emissions in 2050, as outlined in the Paris Agreement. — DayakDaily
