LIMBANG, Sept 22: The RM170 million road access project to Limpaku Pinang could unlock new tourism opportunities for the riverside community, particularly given its proximity to Brunei.
In a TVS news report, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said the area’s natural beauty and attractive landscape could be leveraged to develop new tourism activities once road access is established.
He said Limpaku Pinang’s location near the Brunei border and the neighbouring country’s longest bridge in Southeast Asia could also make it a potential stopover and new attraction for visitors.
“The road access will open up opportunities for the local community to develop activities such as homestays, food products, handicrafts, tourism services and small businesses,” he said during a coordination meeting on the construction of the new access road to Limpaku Pinang in Limbang on Monday (Sept 21).
Hasbi, who is also Limbang MP, said the improved connectivity could create new economic opportunities for the local community while adding value to the area’s socioeconomic development.
The road project is expected to be completed in 2029 and will provide the riverside village with its first road access, as residents currently rely mainly on boats for their daily activities.
He said the project would therefore not only improve connectivity but also provide the infrastructure needed for the community to participate more actively in tourism and other economic activities.
He also called on the appointed contractor to ensure the project is implemented according to the required specifications, standards and timeline.
“We want this project to be implemented properly because the residents have been waiting for this road facility for a long time,” he said.
The Limbang MP stressed that quality, safety and compliance with project specifications must be given due attention to ensure the road could benefit the community over the long term. —DayakDaily
