KUCHING, Aug 24: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) believes that the road sign debacle stirred up by Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak has created an ‘air of discomfort’ and left ‘some bad taste in the mouth’.

PBB information chief Datuk Idris Buang said DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen should review the action of its party members and be more respectful and mindful of the feeling of “others”.

“What Dapsy (DAP Socialist Youth) and DAP had done in blatantly breaching the law and being insensitive to keeping the existence of multiracial harmony is in fact very unfortunate.

“Therefore, YB Chong himself needs to review their own party members’ action and be more respectful and mindful of other people’s feeling,” said Idris in a statement today.

On the other hand, Idris who is also Muara Tuang assemblyman pointed out that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is multiracial in form and substance and has been practising the principle itself, not just calling out slogan.

“We zealously guard and safeguard our multiracial harmony and solidarity to the best possible level whilst DAP and its allies are quite callous and somehow reckless about it as shown by their speeches and actions etc since many years before.

“Remember the racially inclined speeches of Superman (Hew Kuan Yau) and (Teluk Intan MP and former Deputy Parliamentary speaker) Nga Kor Meng and many other DAP’s experts of rhetorics?

“With Merdeka approaching, we as multiracial Malaysians must all be upbeat about celebrating our unity with patriotism.

“However, Dapsy’s and DAP’s insensitive act had given us some ‘air of discomfort’ and ‘some bad taste in the mouth’,” said Idris.

Dapsy under its Kuching chief Daphne Ting recently put up some Chinese characters on road signages of Jalan Main Bazaar, Wayang Street and Jalan Green Hill without the approval of Kuching North City Council (DBKU).

Such a move had caused DBKU and other GPS leaders to come forward to condemn Dapsy.  An officer from DBKU also lodged a police report against Dapsy.

In response, Chong called a press conference expressing regret, describing the whole episode as “unfortunate”.  Chong also stated that Ting would go to DBKU to accept the compound notices for the alleged vandalism offence.-DayakDaily
