KUCHING, Nov 13: The construction of the access road to the southern area of Kuching International Airport (KIA) will help to boost the economy especially for the tourism sector, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as well as provide employment and business opportunities for the local industry, said Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Fadillah said this project would also help to disperse traffic jams in the surrounding areas and act as an alternative route from Samarahan, Serian and many others.
“Apart from that, as a green area it will help to open up new areas for development, as well as act as a new growth area especially for Stampin and the surrounding areas,” said Fadillah in his speech during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Construction of Access Road to the Southern Side of KIA project held in Stampin Baru 4, here today.
Fadillah also hoped that the project would be completed according to the specified standards, including taking into account its environmental effect on the local community.
“As such, to local community leaders and representatives here, please help to monitor this project and make sure it is completed on time without causing any inconveniences to the public,” he added.
With a total cost of RM112.9 million, the project which is undertaken by Reka Iktihar Sdn Bhd started on Aug 2 this year and is expected to be completed within 36 months by Aug 2024.
Among the scopes of the project are the construction of a new four-lane two-way road from Stutong junction to Stampin T-junction (1km), followed by two two-way lanes from Stampin T-junction to Bukit Berangan T-Junction in Samarahan (5.2km) with JKR (Public Works Department) U5 standard, and the construction of two two-way roads from Stampin T-junction to Sg Tapang T-junction (1.7km) also with JKR U5 standard.
It also includes the construction of Stampin T-junction, Sg Tapang T-junction, as well as upgrading works for the Stutong T-junction, the construction of three two-lane two-way concrete bridges across Sg Kuap, Sg Stampin and Sg Sangkoh, construction of one underpass to cross the airport area, land acquisition and utility transfer, and street light installation.
Meanwhile, during the programme, Fadillah also presented the Completing Contractor Certificate Series 4 2021 to 117 completing contractors.
This will enable the completing contractors to have the opportunity to participate in an open tender procurement for ‘sick projects’ by all government agencies.
Also present were Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Assistant Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Batu Kitang incumbent and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang and other distinguished guests. — DayakDaily
