KUCHING, Aug 21: Road potholes and problems related to other road furniture must be treated with gravity as they may cause accidents, even deaths, says Federal Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He said such issues are not new in Malaysia when many cases happen either on federal roads under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Works (KKR) or on state and local authority roads.
“I understand that this is often reported in the mass media and social media by users, so from the first day I set foot into the Works Ministry, this is one of the things I emphasised to all of my staff in the ministry.
“This issue may seem small to some, but I don’t take it lightly because it can cause accidents and deaths. Issues involving lives should not be overlooked,” he stressed.
Therefore, the new MYJalan Campaign, which is under the crimson banner of the Madani Malaysia Concept and its six value pillars, will be launched Aug 24 to increase accountability among road users, industry players and government agencies, that roads are a shared responsibility.
The campaign, including the MYJalan mobile app which allows road users to lodge road-related complaints, is also held as an advocacy platform to educate users about the maintenance of existing roads.
“In terms of difference, the MYJalan Campaign does not isolate the previous campaigns.
“Based on the concept of ‘Actions Speak Louder Than Words’, past campaigns that have been held will be given an injection of improvement and strengthened to ensure that more interactive and integrated actions can be achieved.
“Past campaigns such as FTRoadpedia, ‘Kita Jaga Jalan Kita’, and ‘Zero Potholes’ were made as an inclusive campaign under the MYJalan Campaign,” said Nanta.
For the sake of civilized Malaysians, he added, the MYJalan Campaign strongly recommends the concept of “No Wrong Door Policy” with the launch of the MYJalan mobile app which can improve the capabilities of the existing complaint system.
Although the jurisdiction of the federal government is confined to federal roads, any complaints received through the MYJalan application will be given attention and extended to the parties who need to take action. — DayakDaily
