SERIAN, Feb 8: The road diversion works at a major landslide near Kampung Mawang Tahup was completed at 5.30pm today after eight hours of non-stop works, revealed Serian Division Public Works Department divisional engineer Oliver Ngabong.
“The workers started at 9.30am this morning and the road diversion is finally completed at 5.30pm this afternoon. For now, we would like the villagers to use the road carefully,” Oliver told DayakDaily when contacted this afternoon.
He added that both sides of the road at the collapsed section were now connected and that workers were now doing gravel works to complete the temporary diversion.
When contacted, Tebedu assemblyman Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong praised both PWD and PPES Works for a job well done.
“(They have done a) …very good job,” Manyin quipped.
This morning, Manyin was at the site, and had told reporters that he hoped the diversion works could be completed by today.
The landslide which occurred at 2.30pm yesterday resulting in a total cut off to the village, which affected 135 families with some 600 inhabitants.
Meanwhile, Oliver revealed that for the permanent solution, it would take about two months to come up with the soil survey and design and another seven months to build the affected area.
The total length of the affected area is about 100 metres, with a depth of about 50 metres. The project is expected to cost RM5 million to complete. — DayakDaily
