Miri, Oct 2: Several major roads between Miri and Bintulu will be temporarily closed and diverted during the Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi (LTDL) 2024 Stage 7 international cycling race, scheduled for Oct 5.
The race will cover a distance of 199.3km.
According to Miri District police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the race will commence at Miri Waterfront and conclude at Lasar Kenyalang in Bintulu.
The event will feature 22 teams and a total of 132 riders.
To ensure the race proceeds smoothly and safely, the police will oversee safety and traffic control measures.
Several routes in Miri City and the coastal road to Bintulu will be closed and diverted in stages from 5.30am until the race finishes.
The affected roads include Jalan Sungai Baong, Simpang Jalan Permaisuri, Lampu Isyarat Sehati, Bulatan Sehati, Parkson traffic light, Simpang Grand Old Lady (GOL), Puchong roundabout, Simpang Jalan Hainam, Simpang Jalan Cahaya, Hilltop traffic light, public parking areas in front of Pullman Miri Waterfront and near Imperial Palace Hotel, and along the Coastal Road to Bintulu.
The closure and diversion announcement aims to inform the public about the affected roads, allowing them to plan alternative routes and avoid traffic congestion.
The public is advised to be cautious and adhere to traffic control signals directed by on-duty police officers.
Those traveling to Bekenu and Batu Niah may use the Pan Borneo Road as an alternative route.
Cooperation from all parties is essential to ensure the smooth conduct of race.
