KUCHING, April 15: Several roads leading to the Indoor Stadium will be closed on April 19 from 8.30am until the completion of the Madani Aidilfitri celebration.
The celebration, to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, is expected to attract a large crowd, with several roads and junctions in the vicinity of the stadium affected.
In a statement today, Kuching District Police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah stated that tthe closure will impact key routes, including Kesuma Resort Roundabout, the junction from Wisma Sumber Alam to Indoor Stadium, and several entrances to the stadium.
Specific closures will include the entrances from Jalan Stadium (front and rear), towards Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre, Padang Gasing, Jalan Diplomatik (Squash Centre), bus parking area (next to Sarawak Stadium) and Jalan Stadium (Ring) towards the public parking area.
For attendees planning to drive to the event, the Kuching Police have provided alternative routes to minimise disruptions.
Vehicles coming from the Sesco roundabout are advised to make a U-turn at the Casuarina roundabout and proceed via Jalan Casuarina to enter Jalan Stadium (Ring) junction.
Additionally, those travelling along Jalan Diplomatik can access the designated parking areas behind the stadium.
The police have also outlined the exit routes after the event. Vehicles exiting from the Sarawak Stadium parking area will be directed to use Jalan Diplomatik towards Demak, while vehicles coming from Jalan Stadium (Ring) will exit towards Jalan Casuarina.
Mohd Farhan advised the public not to park along the road shoulders and to plan their journeys in advance.
“This is to help ease the expected traffic congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the event,” he said.
