Road closure from Jalan Batu Kitang to 7th Mile traffic light junction ‘screams of idiocracy’, says Kong

KUCHING, July 28: A Democratic Action Party (DAP) member has slammed the local authorities for closing the main road from Jalan Batu Kitang leading to the 7th Mile traffic light junction.

Michael Kong, special assistant to DAP Sarawak chief Chong Chieng Jen in a statement today described such a decision as a product of “idiocracy”.

“Kampung Bumbok of Batu Kitang has just been placed under the EMCO (Enhanced Movement Control Order). With that, the entire Kampung Bumbuk is now under total lockdown.

“While doing so, the local authorities have blocked the main road from Jalan Batu Kitang leading to the 7th Mile traffic light junction. This effectively forces all traffic to be redirected to Jalan Stephen Yong before then turning back to 7th Mile.

“This traffic flow screams of sheer idiocracy. There is no logic to block off the entire main road which serves all the people from Kota Sentosa to Bau,” said Kong.

He said the logical move would have been to just block off the service road leading to Kampung Bumbok, similarly to what happened when Kampung Bintawa was placed under EMCO, the main road leading to Tun Salahuddin Bridge was not closed.

To Kong, the residents of the area are already suffering enough from the bad traffic due to the closure of the 7th Mile traffic intersection and following the new decision, they now have to experience an even more inconvenient journey.

“I urge (Batu Kitang assemblyman) Lo Khere Chiang as the Chairman of MPP and (Batu Kawah assemblyman Dato Sri Dr) Sim Kui Hian as the Minister of Local Government and Housing to go down to the ground at peak hours to truly ‘appreciated’ the agony that the road users face.

“We understand the need to lock down certain groups of the community but do it properly and do not inconvenience the people,” said Kong. — DayakDaily
