KUCHING, Sept 29: Road access to Padang Merdeka will be closed on Oct 1 to make way for the Kuching Marathon 2023.
Kuching District chief ACP Ashmon Bajah, in a statement today said that the closure will be in effect from 12am until 10am.
In preparation for the marathon, the installation of start and end gates will require road closures on Sept 30 at 10 pm along Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Pearl, Jalan Barrack, and Jalan Wawasan.
The roads that will be closed and diverted are Jalan Gambier/Jalan Main Bazaar/Lebuh Wayang, Jalan Gambier/Jalan Tun ASG Hj Openg/ Jalan Main Baazar, Jalan Lebuh Wayang/Jalan Wawasan, Jalan Borneo/Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Abel-Jalan Padungan, Jalan Padungan from Sri Aman roundabout, RTM traffic light junction/Jalan Satok to Padang Merdeka, Jalan Haji Taha, Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang, Jalan Masjid, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, and the St Mary traffic light junction to Jalan Lebuh Wayang and Jalan Mcdougall.
Ashmon advises the public attending the marathon to park their vehicles at Reservoir Park, Taman Budaya, Green Hill, Saujana Building, Top Spot Parking Lot, Civic Centre, and MBKS Jubilee ground parking lot.
He also stressed the importance of following instructions from on-duty police officers and obeying provided signage during the event.
