KUCHING, July 31: The main road from Nanga Serau to Nanga Seranau in Kapit will be upgraded under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) as part of the government’s commitment to enhancing rural infrastructure and transport connectivity.
Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the initiative is among the key rural road projects planned across the country to improve accessibility for remote communities.
“Among the prioritised projects is the construction and upgrading of 2,800km of rural roads, including the main road from Nanga Serau to Nanga Seranau in Kapit, Sarawak.
“This project is expected to improve access and transportation convenience for rural residents,” he said when tabling RMK13 in Parliament today.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, highlighted that upgrades to existing roads and the construction of new roads will continue to ensure smoother access, with one of the key focus projects being the Trans Borneo Highway in Sarawak.
Furthermore, to enhance cross-border connectivity and economic growth, the government will proceed with infrastructure projects, including the upgrading of border road networks connecting Sabah and Sarawak to Kalimantan, Indonesia.
“At the same time, the upgrading of Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) complexes in Sabah and Sarawak will continue,” the Prime Minister added. — DayakDaily
