KUCHING, Dec 8: Sarawak has completed 380 projects under the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) this year, with RM90 million spent on the construction, refurbishment and maintenance of houses of worship statewide.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said support for mission schools also continued, with RM20 million channelled to 129 schools to upgrade facilities and create safer learning spaces.
Speaking at the Unifor Appreciation Ceremony officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg here on Sunday (Dec 7), Uggah said the progress reflects the State’s commitment to strengthening unity and supporting Sarawak’s diverse religious landscape.
“Unifor’s monitoring and compliance team has handled 2,640 house of worship projects and 652 mission school projects between 2017 and November 20 this year, amounting to RM475 million in total value. Of the house of worship projects, 1,265 have been completed, while 1,148 are still in progress.
“Seventy-three have not started, and 154 have yet to submit their reports,” said Uggah, who is also the minister overseeing Unifor.
For mission schools, 652 projects have been approved, with 375 completed and 239 ongoing. Twenty-two have not begun, and 16 have not submitted reports.
Uggah reminded those involved to settle their outstanding reports, noting that applications will not be considered if previous documentation is incomplete.
He said detailed records help Unifor meet government standards and ensure accountability in the use of funds.
