BETONG, Dec 12: A total of RM8.591 million in land compensation has been distributed to 201 recipients whose land was acquired for four major projects, with the largest compensation allocated for the Bebuling Agropark and its Collecting, Processing, and Packaging Centre.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas highlighted that the Bebuling Agropark represents a new government initiative to introduce and popularise modern farming practices.

The agropark will integrate advanced technologies and machinery, including drones, to maximise agricultural production.

“At this agropark, we plan to dedicate around 60 hectares for the construction of greenhouses. We welcome former landowners, among others, to participate in the programmes available there,” he said during a statement following the cheque presentation ceremony today.

He further announced that the Bebuling STOLport, set to be completed by August next year, will serve as a gateway for the rapid distribution of agricultural products to markets.

Uggah also emphasised the promising developments awaiting the Bukit Saban constituency, including the charming Spaoh town, with several infrastructure and income-generating agricultural projects already underway.

“The primary goal of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government is to enable low-income rural communities to improve their livelihoods through modern agriculture. While Sarawak has achieved recognition as a high-income region, we aim to uplift the incomes of low-income groups, ensuring equitable growth,” he said.

In addition, Uggah, who is also the Bukit Saban assemblyman, revealed that the Sarawak Land Development Board (SLDB) plans to construct a rice mill to benefit farmers in the Tanjung Sebekut rice-growing area.

“With the introduction of machinery, advanced technologies, and high-yield seeds, we aim to achieve harvests of up to eight tonnes per hectare per season,” he said.

While the government remains committed to providing infrastructure, facilities, and financial support, Uggah urged the people to actively contribute to the success of these initiatives.

“Please consult us if you encounter any challenges along the way. Together, we can ensure the success of these projects,” he added. — DayakDaily
