DALAT, Aug 31: The construction of the 11.67 kilometre-long Kampung Medong-Lebrasau-Klid road project with an allocated budget of RM74.2 million, which was previously categorised as ‘sick’, has achieved a completion rate of 8.81 per cent and is scheduled for full completion by July 19, 2025.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas expressed satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing construction following the project’s retendering.
“This was once a sick project and the initial contract was terminated on March 2022.
“A new contractor was appointed, and construction works were initiated on Jan 20 this year. It is expected to be completed in July 2025,” he said in a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
Uggah, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, visited the project site on Wednesday (Aug 30).
The scope of the project involves construction of a R2 standard road along with 20 culverts and three bridges.
“We are satisfied with the implementation of the project. As of Aug 25, we have achieved 8.81 per cent completion, which is on track according to the project’s timeline,” Uggah explained.
During his visit, Uggah was briefed on the workforce, machinery and construction materials allocated to the project’s current status.
He hoped the project will be completed in a timely manner and pledged regular oversight to ensure smooth progress.
Uggah expressed confidence that these measures would lead to the project shedding its ‘troubled’ classification and reaching successful completion.
“The people have been waiting for this road to materialise for a long time. The GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government is committed to ensuring the fruition of this once sick project.
“So far, the project has not encountered any significant obstacles affecting the project,” he added.
