KUCHING, Oct 12: A total of RM650 million has been allocated for the Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance (SKAS) under the Sarawak Budget 2027, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
During the tabling of the Supply Bill (2027), 2026, or Sarawak Budget 2027, at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) today, he said that eligible households will receive RM1,100, senior citizens will receive RM600, and single citizens will receive RM375.
In addition, RM15 million has been allocated to the Endowment Fund Sarawak, whereas the Bantuan Ibu Bersalin (BIB) programme, which aims to support mothers after childbirth, has been allocated RM5 million.
The Sarawak Welfare Department will also receive RM45.9 million to disburse various aids, and RM13.6 million for disaster-related aid.
“Complementing these welfare measures, the government will continue to provide a stage-bus fare subsidy, making public transport affordable and inclusive, with fares capped at RM1 per trip and a RM30 unlimited monthly pass. We have significantly reduced the daily cost of travel for working families.
“To sustain this initiative and continue easing the burden of our rakyat, an allocation of RM8.5 million is provided under this budget next year,” he said. — DayakDaily
