KUCHING, Sept 26: A total of RM630,000 from the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation for Kota Sentosa to date has been disbursed by its assemblyman Wilfred Yap for upgrading Bumiputera village halls in his constituency.

Yap, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, and Deputy MBKS Mayor Dato Dr Zaiedi Suhaili and other government officers handed over the upgrading and repair project for Balai Raya Kampung Stampin located behind KPJ Specialist Hospital to the successful contractor, East Construction Enterprise.

The other village halls that have been upgraded or are in the process of upgrading are in Kampung Lubok Buan (RM100,000), Kampung Stampin Iban Baru (RM100,000), Kampung Sutong Iban (RM80,000), Kampung Sungai Tapang (RM100,000) and Kampung Stutong Melayu (RM150,000).

In a statement today, Yap said he will continue to monitor government authorities tasked with service delivery and will also remain committed to securing more State development funding for improving neglected infrastructure such as drains and roads, some of which are still lacking in certain areas, to uplift the standard of living and improve the quality of life of all the communities living in Kota Sentosa.

Yap said the residents of Kampung Stampin had earlier requested him for assistance as the condition of the balai raya was not satisfactory to serve the needs of the residents.

“The good condition of village halls is very important for unity of local communities because villagers use it as a community centre to organise many important and meaningful activities and cultural programs,” said Yap.

The handing over of the Letter of Award and village hall to the contractor was carried out by Wee today, witnessed by Yap, Zaiedi, Penghulu Jakup Buan and members of Kampung Stampin Development and Security Committee.

The contractor was reminded by MBKS officers to ensure that the repair and upgrading work will be completed within the two months earmarked for the project.

The project is expected to be completed by Nov 23, 2023. The scope of works for the contract sum of RM100,000 is the construction of new fencing and grill, painting, and security grills. — DayakDaily
