RM610,600 disbursed to 6,106 underprivileged families in conjunction with CNY

KUCHING, Jan 27: Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) has disbursed RM610,600 to 6,106 underprivileged families in conjunction with this year’s Chinese New Year celebration.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the assistance is to help ease the recipients’ burden as well as to cheer them up.

“The contribution also would help to improve the quality of life for the underprivileged families,” said Fatimah in her speech during the ‘Sejambak Kasih Tahun Baru Cina’ event at Sungai Maong Community Hall yesterday.


Fatimah added, from January until December 2021, JKMS has channeled a total of RM243,162,850 in monthly expenditure to 52,363 recipients throughout Sarawak.

Also present during the ceremony were JKMS director Noriah Ahmad, Kuching Deputy Resident Mackos Sibong and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Batu Lintang branch chairman Sih Hua Tong. — DayakDaily
