MARUDI, Jan 17: A total of 13 infrastructure projects worth RM422.3 million in Marudi District will be tendered this year.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas highlighted that these projects are part of the 20 infrastructure initiatives valued at RM616 million, approved by the Sarawak government under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) for Marudi.

“Among the projects is the tar sealing of Jalan Ulu Tinjar from the Lapok junction to the Kampung Long Pisang junction, valued at RM130 million. Another key project involves the tar sealing of a 9.5-kilometre road in Long Terang Kanan, the reconstruction of a bridge crossing the Tinjar River, and the improvement of approach roads to nearby villages, all worth RM48 million, with the tender expected in the first quarter of 2025.

“Additionally, there is the tar sealing of the road to Long Tabing, valued at RM10 million, and road improvements to Rh John Matu and several other roads in the interior, totalling RM6 million. This is our commitment to the people here, and we must ensure that these projects are realised,” he said during the officiation of Marudi Bridge by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, streamed live via Ukas Channel today.

On the 20 infrastructure projects, Uggah clarified that 19 are People’s Projects worth RM548 million, with one project worth RM68 million under the 12MP.

The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak has completed six of these projects, valued at RM187.7 million, while one is currently under construction.

Uggah, who also serves as the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, noted that the ministry has been entrusted with the largest development budget in Sarawak’s history, amounting RM1.31 billion, which is 64 per cent higher compared to 2024.

“In 2024, JKR achieved 98 per cent delivery on projects. The Premier has instructed that all projects under this RM1.31 billion budget be fully completed. It is a significant challenge, but I am confident that JKR can meet this goal,” he stated.

Uggah emphasised that the Sarawak government’s focus on infrastructure development over the past eight years has been the right approach.
“This is the direction the Premier will continue to pursue, ensuring that Sarawak develops international-standard infrastructure for the benefit of the people.

“These projects reflect a government that genuinely listens to the people. Under the Premier’s leadership, Sarawak is now on the right path to a much brighter future,” he added.

However, Uggah reminded that these efforts would not have been possible without the contributions of all parties and the unwavering support of the people.

“Let us continue to support the Premier to ensure that the development of our beloved Sarawak progresses towards achieving the status of a developed and modern region,” he urged. — DayakDaily
