RM40 mln project expected to resolve Bekenu water supply issues by Q3 2022

KUCHING, March 28: A project costing RM40 million is expected to resolve water supply issues in in Bekenu when completed in the third quarter of 2022.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the People’s Project (Project Rakyat) is an important part of the NR2, WO6 Proposed 5.0ML High Ground Tank and Upgrading of Pumping System at Bukit Song Booster Station project, which is currently under construction.

He said the scope of work for the project involves the installation of a 30.6km pipeline, upgrading the pump system at the Bukit Song Booster Pump Station, construction of a 5 MLD (million litres per day) hill reservoir and construction of a 3 MLD high-level tank in Bekenu Town.

Julaihi said this after a site visit and briefing session at the Work Contract Package (WPC) 11 Bekenu office on Sunday (March 27).

Julaihi added the project is implemented through a collaboration between the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) and the Pan Borneo contractor.

JBALB is committed to ensuring that the project will be completed as soon as possible, he added. — DayakDaily
