RM40 mln Mile 8 flyover, RM321 mln Nanga Belawai-Song-Kapit Road among key projects discussed in meeting

KUCHING, June 27: The RM40 million Mile 8 flyover and upgrade of the Kuching-Serian Road, along with the RM321.5 million project to construct a new bridge and road linking Nanga Belawai to Song-Kapit, were among key infrastructure initiatives discussed during a coordination meeting chaired by Works Minister Dato Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi today.

The meeting, held in conjunction with Nanta’s ground visit to Kapit, brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Works (KKR), the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia, and JKR Sarawak to deliberate on five critical projects aimed at enhancing connectivity and driving development in Sarawak, particularly in the Kapit Division.

In a post shared on his social media, Nanta revealed that the RM321.5 million project to construct a new bridge and road from Nanga Belawai to Song-Kapit falls under the purview of JKR Malaysia.

Also under discussion were several key projects led by JKR Sarawak. These include the RM40 million preliminary works to build a flyover and upgrade the Mile 8 stretch of the Kuching-Serian Road, which is currently in the design and land acquisition phase.

Other projects reviewed during the meeting include:

  • The RM13 million preliminary and design works to upgrade FR21 Serian-Tebedu Road to the Indonesian border;
  • The RM2.28 million preliminary works to convert the Pujut 3 (GK) Roundabout into a signalised intersection, along with upgrades to the Puchong-Sungai Lorong road from the Saberkas/Pujut 7 Roundabout in Miri Division;
  • The RM10 million preliminary works for a new road and bridge connecting Nanga Belawai to the Song-Kapit Road;
  • A RM3.6 million preliminary project to construct a bypass road from the Kapit Division Government Complex (Bleteh) to Airport Road in Kapit.

Nanta expressed his appreciation to Deputy Secretary-General (Policy and Development) of KKR, Dato’ Mohd Sakeri Abdul Kadir, and the teams from JKR Malaysia and Sarawak for their presence and valuable input during the session.

According to a statement by JKR Sarawak, the main objective of the meeting was to ensure smooth coordination and planning, particularly for the two major new road and bridge projects in the Kapit Division that are expected to significantly benefit local communities.

JKR Sarawak also emphasised that strong collaboration between federal and state agencies is essential to delivering impactful infrastructure projects that align with the government’s broader agenda of rural development and enhanced connectivity. — DayakDaily
