KUCHING, Feb 26: The RM312 million Batang Rajang Bridge and Jalan Pasi-Tanjong Manis projects in Sarikei are expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the projects are currently at 72 per cent completion.

He said the projects, which started in 2018 and were expected to be completed by 2022, were delayed by three per cent and given an extension of time (EOT) of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Len Talif said this when met by reporters during a working visit to the project site on Saturday (Feb 25).

The Kuala Rajang assemblyman said a long-term plan that is also being worked on for the central region is to connect the 11-kilometre road from Pan Borneo Highway to Jalan Pasi according to the R5 four-lane specifications.

He also said all of the infrastructures are planned while considering the local potential, such as agriculture and tourism, which would help increase the economic activities in Sarikei, Julau, Pakan, and Tanjong Manis.

He added with the establishment of the Rajang Delta Development Agency (Radda), more than 400 infrastructure projects have been identified from 2023 to 2030 with a cost of almost RM17 billion. — DayakDaily
