KUCHING, Jan 2: Phase 1 applications for the Media Innovation Fund, aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s media ecosystem through technology adoption and talent development, are open from Jan 1 to 14.
The Ministry of Communications said in a Facebook post today that the funding is open to organisations, as well as government and local private media companies registered with the Malaysian Department of Information, and media personnel holding a valid Media Accreditation Card.
The fund covers four key components: training for media practitioners; software and technology adaptation; equipment and support facilities; and research and development (R&D) for content production.
According to the ministry, the training component includes courses on new technologies or methodologies, as well as costs related to organising or participating in such programmes.
Funding under software and technology adaptation includes audio, video, artificial intelligence (AI), automation and graphics software that supports content creation.
The equipment and support facilities component provides funding for cameras, computers, audio equipment, small studios, servers and other ICT equipment.
Meanwhile, the content R&D component supports research into the development of innovative content, including the use of AI and emerging technologies.

On Dec 18, 2025 the Ministry of Communications announced a RM30 million allocation for the Media Innovation Fund to support journalists and media organisations in leveraging the latest technologies, including digitalisation and AI.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the initiative is intended to accelerate the transformation of the local media industry so it remains relevant, competitive and resilient amid an increasingly challenging digital landscape.
The fund was established to encourage the production of more creative, interactive and high-impact content, while enhancing the skills and competencies of media practitioners through structured training. It also aims to support the industry’s transformation through innovative projects spanning content, media technology and digital strategies. — DayakDaily
