BINTANGOR, June 19: The RM3.04 million project to upgrade the RC pontoon wharf in Bintangor has achieved 65 per cent physical completion as of June, marking steady progress toward enhancing river transport infrastructure for the local community.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Daro assemblyman and Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) chairman Safiee Ahmad said the project, overseen by the board, commenced on Nov 6, 2024, and is scheduled for full completion by Oct 4, 2025.
However, he urged the contractor to accelerate construction works to ensure early completion by Sept 5, 2025.
“The project is progressing smoothly and is continuously monitored by the Sarawak Rivers Board to ensure it stays on track.
“The RC Pontoon Wharf in Bintangor serves as the primary landing point for boats and small vessels used by coastal residents to transport their catch and agricultural produce to the town.
“As such, its timely completion is vital to support and sustain the local economy,” he said during a working visit to the project site on Tuesday (June 17).
He was accompanied by Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, Meradong District officer Thomas Geoffrey Kandawang, and other government officials.
Meanwhile, Ding expressed his appreciation to Safiee for his commitment to ensuring the smooth implementation of what he described as a crucial Sarawak government initiative aimed at improving community well-being.
“This is a long-awaited and much-needed project that will greatly benefit the local population,” he added. — DayakDaily
