KUCHING, March 31: The Sibu Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB) Phase 5 project has an estimated cost of RM275 million, and if approved, construction will be completed in 2027.
According to Minister of Environment and Water Dato Sri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, the project is under the implementation of the Third Rolling Plan, 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
“The estimated cost for RTB Sibu Phase 5 is RM275 million, which includes the proposed scope: consulting services, detailed design, site supervision, appointment of surveyor consultants, land investigation works, land acquisition, project management, preliminary work, utility removal, pump house construction, flood reservoir construction, flood tire construction, and drainage system upgrading,” he said in response to a question from Senator Robert Lau today.
Earlier, Senator Robert Lau had asked about the latest status of the said Sibu project.
Tuan Ibrahim added that with the comprehensive implementation of the RTB Sibu project starting from Phase 1 to Phase 5 is able to provide protection for 80,000 people from a population of 89,752 people who are vulnerable to flood risk.
“According to a study conducted by Jurutera Jasa Sibu, the flood-affected area of 2,128 hectares can be reduced,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lau has raised the flood mitigation project in Dewan Negara on several occasions. — DayakDaily
