LUNDU, Sept 23: After serving the community for decades, Kampung Kendaie’s existing church is set to make way for a new RM250,000 Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) building aimed at providing worshippers with a more comfortable place of worship.
Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said the new church was not merely a physical development but would also become a landmark and gathering place for the community.
“The existing church building had been used by the community for decades, and the new facility was expected to provide a more comfortable and conducive environment for the congregation,” he said when officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the BEM Kampung Kendaie church site yesterday (Sept 22), as reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
Billy said the application for the church development was submitted around March and subsequently approved with an allocation of RM250,000.
He said complete applications and compliance with the required procedures were important to ensure a smooth project approval and implementation process.
Meanwhile, he reaffirmed his commitment to helping improve places of worship in Opar progressively, subject to the necessary applications and approvals.
He also reminded the relevant parties to adhere to the approved plans and specifications, as well as maintain proper documentation and contractor selection records to ensure sound project governance.
Also during the event, Billy presented RM1,500 to the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) of SK Kendaie and RM10,000 to the Zone 3 Biawak Community Committee under the Rural Minor Project (MRP). — DayakDaily
