MIRI, Sept 23: A total of RM11.4 million has been allocated to rehabilitate and upgrade 21 roads across Desa Senadin, Permyjaya and Tudan, with works expected to begin in late October.
Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said RM10 million would go towards rehabilitating 20 roads, comprising eight in Permyjaya, seven in Desa Senadin and five in Tudan, while RM1.4 million was allocated for the upgrading and rehabilitation of the 1.245-kilometre Jalan Ilmu.
“For the rehabilitation of the 20 roads, Miri City Council (MCC) will call for tenders this week, with works expected to begin in late October or early November.
“The works will include milling and resurfacing the roads,” he said in a press conference on proposed projects under the N75 Senadin constituency at the MCC headquarters today, according to a TVS report.
Separately, RM480,000 has been allocated to replace 400 existing streetlights with LED lights in several Senadin areas to improve lighting conditions.
The works will cover Desa Senadin, Jalan Ilmu, Jalan Sukma, Jalan Sena, Jalan Mulia, Jalan Kiambang, Jalan Datuk Permaisuri 3C, Jalan Datuk Permaisuri 2, Jalan Murni Utama, Jalan Datuk Permaisuri 3 and part of Jalan Riam.
“The lights are expected to arrive in early October, with replacement works scheduled to begin around mid-October and targeted for completion in November,” he said.
Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman, said the LED streetlight replacement was also part of follow-up measures after several areas in Senadin were affected by floods earlier this year.
Meanwhile, he added that an additional RM3 million had been approved to address drainage issues in Desa Senadin, Permyjaya and Tudan.
He said MCC would work with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to identify flood-prone areas and determine the necessary remedial works, including retention pond clearing and related improvements. — DayakDaily
