RM240,000 presented to 12 welfare bodies on TYT’s 85th birthday

KUCHING, Oct 10: Head of the State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud presents grants with a total amount of RM240,000 to 12 welfare bodies and institutions in the State.

The grants were presented during a High-Tea ceremony reception, in conjunction with his 85th birthday celebration, held at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) hall, today.

Among the grants recipients were Rumah Seri Kenangan Kuching (RM30,000), Rumah Seri Kenangan Sibu (RM30,000), Pusat Pemulihan Samarahan (RM20,000), Sekolah Tunas Bakti Kuching (RM20,000), Sekolah Tunas Bakti (P) Miri (RM20,000), Taman Seri Puteri Kuching (RM20,000), Rumah Kanak-Kanak Datuk Ajibah Abol Sri Aman (RM20,000), Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah Kuching (RM20,000), Desa Bina Diri Kuching (RM20,000), Asrama Akhlak (L) Kuching (RM10,000), Asrama Akhlak (P) Kuching (RM10,000), and Bengkel Seri Sarawak (RM20,000).


The grants, given by the Sarawak State Welfare Department, are to fund the welfare bodies and institutions activities for the benefit of their respective residents.

During the reception, Taib also took the opportunity to cut the ‘pulut kuning’ to symbolically mark his 85th birthday celebration.

Following that, the Head of the State, and distinguished guests were entertained with a song and dance performance, before leaving the ceremony with his wife at about 12.15pm.

Also present were DUN Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Assistant Minister of Native Laws and Customs Datuk John Sikie Tayai, Assistant Minister of Utilities (Rural Electricity) Datuk Liwan Lagang, and Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communications Unit) Datuk Abdullah Saidol. — DayakDaily.
