RM240 million for clean water supply, new infrastructure in Pantu, Balai Ringin

KUCHING, July 20: High-impact projects totalling RM240 million will be implemented in the Pantu and Balai Ringin areas, which will improve the living standards of the rural communities.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, said among the projects are the construction of a new water treatment plant in Pantu worth RM110 million, funded by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.

Apart from that, another project is being implemented under the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), namely the clean water distribution project from Slabi, Serian to Balai Ringin, worth RM130 million, thus strengthening the rural water supply network in the area.

“This project is currently in the tender process and is expected to commence next year.

“It will involve the connection of clean water pipes from Kampung Jaong to Kampung Empelanjau, which will benefit hundreds of households in the area involved,” said Snowdan, who is also the assemblyman for Balai Ringin.

He said this at the Randau Ruai Programme at Rumah Panjang Tr Peter Gimang, Kampung Rapak Penyau, Sri Aman, on Saturday (July 19).

Meanwhile, he stated that the development of Dataran Pantu, at a cost of RM2.2 million, is currently in the construction phase in Pantu. This project is expected to become a new landmark for the social and economic activities of the local community.

He also announced a contribution of RM10,000 to the Kampung Rapak Penyau Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) and RM5,000 to the village Women’s Bureau as an incentive to empower women’s roles in generating the economy and preserving cultural heritage. — DayakDaily
